Residents and civic leaders have hit back at a magazine that
ranked East Yorkshire bottom in a survey to find England's best
county.
The Country Life magazine survey put East Yorkshire in 40th place
- down from seventh in 2003, when the study was last carried out.
The region was among the worst performers in most of the 19
categories measured, including landscape, heritage, property prices,
flood risk, health, council performance, crime statistics, Who's Who
entries and even sunshine.
East Yorkshire's best category, in which it ranked seventh, was
for green credentials, including recycling.
