Article: On the level: Crawl space excavation would be a wise decision

When our house was built half of the basement was unfinished and the other half is crawl space. I don't know why the entire basement was not dug out. Can the crawl space now be dug out converted to basement space without too many difficulties?

The entire basement wasn't completely excavated to a depth of say eight feet for the simplest of all reasons - cost. I see a lot of them.

I personally detest crawl spaces for selfish reasons because I find myself in them far too often. The down sides of having a crawl space for me don't justify them. After all, the fellow who dug part of your basement so shallow that he had to rename it "crawl" just to save a few bucks doesn't live there. You do.
