Article: Businesses struggle as stimulus hangs in the balance

Southland businesses and cities are weathering tough financial times as they wait for Congress to send a stimulus bill to President Obama that could pump nearly $1 trillion into the nation's ailing economy.

On Friday, Obama again pressed for quick passage of the legislation. Senate Democrats responded by reaching agreement with a small group of Republicans on a measure that would trim the cost of the rescue package to $827 billion.

Jim Randall, president and owner of Industry-based Allfast Fastening Systems Inc., which makes the rivets that hold commercial and military planes together, is feeling the pain of the recession.
