A longtime Essex County Juvenile Court judge is preparing to
bring his skills to a new statewide judicial role.
Michael F. Edgerton will become chief justice of the Juvenile
Court on March 1. The Danvers resident was named to the post last
week by Robert A. Mulligan, Massachusetts chief justice for
administration and management.
Edgerton, an associate justice in the Essex Juvenile Court since
May 1996, will succeed Martha P. Grace, who is retiring Feb. 28.
"I'm very enthusiastic about it," Edgerton, 64, said of his new
assignment, noting the opportunity it will give him to "work
directly with all the juvenile court judges and clerk magistrates
and probation officers. ...
