A pressure group has attacked plans to permanently close two Bath
pubs.
Both the Castle at Bathwick and the Englishcombe Inn at
Englishcombe Lane are currently shut.
The Bath and Borders branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra)
has begun efforts to persuade planners to reject new proposals for
both buildings.
Amek Investments, which recently bought the Castle at Forester
Avenue, has applied for planning permission to turn it into housing,
while Cedar Care Homes wants to convert the Englishcombe Inn into a
40-bed care and nursing home.
The applications are currently being considered by Bath and North
East Somerset Council planning officials.
