It wasn't only students who were bracing for the start of report
card season in Montgomery County public schools last week. Debbie
Goldstein and her fellow social workers at the Jewish Social Service
Agency in Rockville knew their phones would start ringing as soon as
the grades got home.
"Typically, we get a huge increase in referrals at this time of
year," said Goldstein, clinical director of child and family
services at the agency, which offers social services and academic
counseling to low-income families across the region. "It can be a
very stressful time for families."
