George Douglas spent a lifetime of service and reaching out to
others as an American GI, a funeral director and a devout Christian.
As a member of the 811th Amphibian Truck Company, who saw action
in New Guinea, Philippines and in occupied Japan during World War
II, Mr. Douglas was proud to serve his country and to befriend the
people that the Americans liberated.
George William Douglas of the Blackridge section of Wilkinsburg,
owner of George W. Douglas Funeral Home in Homewood, died on
Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, in Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville.
He was 84.
At the time of his death, Mr. Douglas was considered the oldest
