Article: Historic home left in limbo

PETERSBURG -- The "Petersburg Room" in the McIlwaine house is one of the great rooms in this country with architectural features found nowhere else, according to experts. The house is on the National Register of Historic Places.

But few in the city have ever seen the room that sits in the house above the city's visitor's center, and if the city sells the building to a private owner even fewer might get the chance to see the room, some argue.

Since 2006, the city has had plans to sell the house on Cockade Alley across from the historic Farmer's Market.
