The market lifted for the best prime lambs at livestock sales at
Canterbury Agricultural Park, in Christchurch, this week.
Better lambs increased by between $2 and $3 a head from last
week, with the heaviest making $98 to $110. Except for the smaller
lambs, the store lamb market had a slightly easier sale.
Prime ewes were in demand, up between $3 and $5, with the best
making $65 to $70.
Prime cattle were down 2c/kg to 5c/kg, with steers at 178c to
185c/kg, and sales to 188c/kg. The store-cattle market fared worse,
down 5c/kg to 8c/kg for well-bred cattle, and 10c/kg to 15c/kg for
dairy-cross cattle.
