Clark Lennon Smith, 50, a retired Army major who was an
intelligence officer and later worked as a civilian intelligence
analyst, died Feb. 10 at the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center
in Richmond. He had an anoxic brain injury after suffering cardiac
arrest while jogging in August. He was an Alexandria resident.
Maj. Smith was born in Exeter, N.H., and excelled in tennis,
football and wrestling while attending high school in Pawhuska,
Okla. He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1981 and later
assisted in decommissioning U.S. nuclear missile sites in Europe. He
also participated in the U.S. effort to oust Panamanian leader
Manuel Noriega in 1989.
