2nd LD Writethru: UN Security Council hails agreement between Sudanese government, JEM

UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- The UN Security Council on Tuesday extended a welcome to an agreement between the Sudanese government and the rebel Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) at the end of their peace talks in Doha, Qatar.

Yukio Takasu, the president of the Security Council for the month of February, made the statement to reporters after council members met behind closed doors on the situation in Darfur.

The Security Council welcomed the agreement between the Sudanese government and JEM to build confidence, Takasu said.
