The heaviest butcher-type lambs rose between $8 and $12 a head at livestock sales at Canterbury Agricultural Park in Christchurch this week.

The increase from last week saw top lambs making $115 to $120, with the odd sale to more than $130, and overall the market rose.

Store-lamb prices increased by between $3 and $4 a head, with the best lambs fetching $67 to $72 and the odd sale to $80. Demand was up for a good prime-ewe market, with prices climbing between $5 and $8 from last week and heavy ewes making $58 to $71.

Prime cattle eased in value by 2c/kg to 5c/kg, with steers at 178c to 184c/kg, and sales to 190.5c/kg.
