RYAN DOUMIT
Catcher, 6-foot-1, 215 pounds
Bats: switch, Throws: right
Notable: Doumit was named second-team All-America at Moses Lake
(Wash.) High School, and was drafted in the second round in 1999.
Last season, "Dewey" led National League catchers with a .323
batting average. He made a career-high 106 starts behind the plate
and also made one appearance at first base. He signed a three-year,
$11.5 million contract in December, and donated $25,000 to the
Pirates Charities' Fields for Kids program.
What did you buy when you got the new contract?
I bought my parents a house. It's something I always wanted to
do, and that's all the money I plan on spending for a little while.
