Hero bus driver Andrew Smith is back home in Plymouth just a week after undergoing major surgery to save his leg.

Mr Smith, aged 39, is recuperating at his Stoke flat and looking forward to getting back to work as a coach driver at Target Travel.

He arrived home late on Thursday night and has since been visited by friends and well-wishers.

He has also visited a doctor to have his wounds looked at.

The driver, injured when his vehicle careered off an ice-covered road and hit a tree at about 50mph, has a laceration on his right knee and severe bruising to the left side of his body.

His crushed left leg is heavily bandaged after doctors operated on it twice to save it from potential amputation.
