I can't be the first person to sit down to write about Florence
with Michelangelo looking over my shoulder. It is daunting, but I
can't escape it.
The one thing most people know about Michelangelo is that he said
the form was in the stone and all the sculptor had to do was find
it. The challenge is the same for the writer after a week in
Florence. Back from the past, all he or she has to do is to find the
1,311 words to convey it.
I have wanted to visit the capital of the Italian Renaissance for
a long time, but I am glad I went to Florence now and not as a young
person. True, Florence is a city of love, but Monique and I are not
too old for love. And really, Florence is a city of art, and ...
