Coca Cola to spend 500,000 dollars on youth soccer tournament

NAIROBI, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- The 2009 COPA Coca-Cola youth soccer tournament will cost the world's beverage company 500,000 U.S. dollars.

The 2009 edition will also involve 256 teams (up from 20 in 2007 and 40 in 2008) of under 17s (mostly between ages 13 and 15) drawn from both communities and schools in various regions in Kenya.

Speaking in Nairobi on Friday, Coca Cola Marketing Manager for Kenya Pamela Mutua reiterated the company's commitment to investing in sports in the country.

"Through this platform, Coca-Cola seeks to develop youth talent in soccer and promote active and healthy lifestyles among this population."
