Do As DUKE DID: I have just been reading a book about the history of the Trentham Estate called Trentham, The Hall, Gardens And Branch Railway.

In about 1910, The Duke of Sutherland, the then owner, decided to open the gardens to the public. A newspaper report of June 10, 1910, drew attention to popular interest in the gardens.
