Washington -- Shakira, Journey and Van Halen are convinced the merger between Live Nation and Ticketmaster will be good for the music industry.

But Sen. Herb Kohl and others are not so sure. The Wisconsin Democrat, who leads a Senate antitrust subcommittee, called a hearing Tuesday on the $2.5 billion merger to examine whether the deal could hurt music lovers across the country.

"This deal raises many serious questions regarding the future of competition in the concert business," he said. "The burden will be on Ticketmaster and Live Nation to demonstrate that consumers will be better off."
