Article: BAPTIST CHURCH PASTOR WINS VOTE, RETAINS POST

A majority of members of Trinity Mission Baptist Church voted Friday night to keep their pastor of 11 years, the Rev. Jim Dotson.

The outcome concludes a heated battle among members and staff about the merits of their pastor that has lasted more than a year.

The conflict has torn the congregation apart and caused dozens of members to leave the church, at 617 E. Fountain Blvd.

"People now need to put this matter behind them," said church member Janice Friffin, 47, who voted for Dotson.

Dotson could not be reached Friday for comment.

For 13 months, deacons at Trinity Baptist, which has a weekly attendance of about 225, have wrestled with how to handle Dotson's alleged verbal and physical abuse ...
