BANGOR - The city's Conservative and Reform synagogues will hold
a joint Purim Masquerade Ball at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 7, in the
Epstein Room of Beth Israel, 144 York St.
Live music will be provided by Scott Rapaport and the Eastern
Standard Quartet, with food and drinks available.
Guests are not required to dress in costume but a prize for best
costume will be awarded. Masks will be sold at the ball.
Purim commemorates the deliverance of the Jewish people in
ancient Persia from Haman's plot to annihilate them. The story is
recorded in the Book of Esther, who foiled the plot. Esther was made
queen by King Ahasuerus, and the king allowed the Jews to destroy
their enemies.
