"Halo Wars" represents a huge gamble for the popular sci-fi series pitting humanity against an alien foe.

And it may just pay off.

Returning in this action-packed game is the familiar mythos of a space faring Navy and Marine force that tries to repel the onslaught of The Covenant and the even more mysterious Flood.

The Warthogs still slip and slide, the Covenant Grunts still cry over fallen comrades.

And Spartans still kick... well, you know.

But it's what is missing that spins this game along a grand roulette wheel.

Can "Halo Wars" survive without the Master Chief?
