Article: Ansonia grand list takes slight dip

ANSONIA -- The city's net grand list of taxable property has declined for the first time in more than two decades, but real estate values offered a glimmer of hope.

The grand list as of Oct. 1, 2008, at $1.16 billion, showed a $6.55 million, or 0.01 percent, decline over the previous year. The figures take into account any exemptions.

The biggest drop was in motor vehicle values, which at $85.31 million took a hit of $4.63 million. City Assessor Marge Dzwonchyk said the decline wasn't a surprise, as it was duplicated in many other municipalities in the state that saw purchases of new cars go way down.
