'08 champs third at NWAACC; women seventh

KENNEWICK -- If the trophy wasn't the one they'd hoped for, the final-game result was.

Sixth-ranked Yakima Valley, which saw its chances for a second straight NWAACC Tournament championship end with a double-overtime loss the previous night, defeated No. 2 Highline 81-73 for third place Sunday in the Toyota Center.

YVCC's women, however, weren't as fortunate. The second-ranked Yaks fell to No. 6 Walla Walla 72-54, and finished seventh.

The men's victory completed a surprising season for YVCC (25-7), which lost its best player from last season to the University of Montana and its top recruit for this season to a knee injury ...
