A s THE competition season gathers momentum, eminent American equestrian sport psychologist Seana Adamson has been looking at how riders stay motivated as they prepare for the season ahead.

Seana looks at motivation from both the practical and the personal perspective.

"If competition is what motivates you, then use competition to help you plan your daily schedule," she said. "For many people it is very motivating to have a clear goal for each day.

"Remember it is the training that occurs months before a show that determines much of your success in the show ring."
