ORGANISERS of Edinburgh's "breakaway" comedy festival have
revealed plans to open up the event to all venues, promoters and
performers.
The four biggest Fringe venues yesterday said any show could be
part of the second Edinburgh Comedy Festival - as long as it stumped
up GBP 500 for inclusion in the programme.
The move has been drawn up in the wake of claims that the
festival, launched last year, was effectively a "cartel" being run
by the venues with the biggest budgets.
However, the fee for inclusion in the comedy festival brochure is
more than GBP 200 than that currently being charged to be included
in the official Fringe programme.
