The three golden rules for nature walking, I was told by Pyrenean
National Park ranger Laurent, are as follows: get up early, bring a
good pair of binoculars, and stop to look around every few minutes
to see if anything is going on. He told me this at 9am when we were
already halfway up a mountain, so the getting up early was done. I
had also remembered my binoculars and was starting to get the hang
of using them. And I was certainly happy to stop every few minutes.
