Article: Strong finish lifts Mt. Lebanon in quarterfinals

SHARON -- Once Evan Pierce's teammates supplied him with confidence, the Mt. Lebanon junior supplied them with points.

Pierce -- held scoreless in the first half -- scored 15 points in the final nine minutes to lead Mt. Lebanon to a come-from-behind victory over Erie Cathedral Prep, 51-41, in the quarterfinals of the PIAA Class AAAA playoffs. Mt. Lebanon ended the game with a 14-1 run.

It all started with a halftime pep talk.

"My teammates kept bringing me up, giving positive encouragement," said Pierce, a 6-foot-2 guard, who was told by his coach and teammates to shoot more in the second half. "... I used that as confidence and it worked."
