Article: Winfield takes big leap in first year as Class AAA team: ; Generals meet South Charleston in first round of State Tournament

If you want to talk the X's and O's of trying to beat South Charleston High School's talented boys basketball team, Pat McGinnis will gladly oblige.

With a quarterfinal Class AAA state tournament date looming against the top-seeded Black Eagles, the Winfield coach certainly has done his homework.

But really, McGinnis said, his Generals' fate against South Charleston comes down to one thing. Winfield simply has to play a great game. And even that might not be enough.

"You can look at all the numbers and stats all you want," McGinnis said. "But we've just got to put together a great game to beat them.

"Everything has to be clicking and you hope they're off their game a little bit."
