The Fayette County Zoning Hearing Board wants live witnesses, not
written letters, at the next zoning hearing for Amerikohl Mining
Inc. of Butler.
Amerikohl has applied for a special exception to mine 588 acres
in Dunbar Township, near the Great Allegheny Passage on the way to
Ohiopyle State Park. The mine would be about five miles from
Cucumber Falls, a popular attraction.
The first of two zoning hearings for the special exception was
held Wednesday. The land in question is zoned agricultural, and
Amerikohl needs a special exception in order to remove coal.
