Green Bay -- A new champion was crowned at Lambeau Field on
Thursday, in the shadow of a Vince Lombardi cheese carving.
It wasn't exactly a raucous crowd, but a small gathering of
cheeseheads applauded as a judge hoisted the prize-winning 20-pound
Parmesan from Antigo above his head, in the cheese world version of
a Lambeau Leap.
It was fitting that Wisconsin brought home a championship at
Lambeau, after losing in the past two contests to cheeses from New
York and Indiana. State cheesemakers have taken home the
championship in 11 of the 15 contests since the biennial competition
began in 1981.
A record 1,360 entries from 32 states competed in the Super Bowl
of cheese.
