Alan Hollingsworth, who has died aged 87, was not only the oldest
former member of the editorial staff of this newspaper - and
certainly one of the most distinguished - but a Grimsby man, far
away, and ever eager to keep in touch with his past.
There was a time when he and I corresponded at tremendous pace,
letters replied to by return and at length, often three times in a
week!
Alan was born in 1922. His father, Cpt Harold Hollingsworth,
who'd served with the Lincolnshire Yeomanry in Palestine, was
extremely well known with Consolidated Fisheries in the old days.
After Wintringham Grammer School (and the Scouts and the Corps),
he became a sub-editor on this newspaper, a member of the LDV ...
