The Beauty Queen of Leenane
The corrosive relationship between a mother and daughter is the
subject of an Irish drama that is dark, disturbing and yet funny,
writes Alan Cookman
SET in the mountains of Connemara, Martin McDonagh's The Beauty
Queen of Leenane is the story of a put-upon woman at the end of her
tether.
The play, which is being presented by Alsager Community Theatre
next week, is a dark comedy that grows darker and darker.
Chris Lockett plays 40-year-old Maureen, a plain and lonely woman
in her early forties, who lives with her possessive and manipulative
mother Mag (Maree Thorpe).
While Maureen's siblings have left to find lives of their own,
she has stayed behind, consumed ...
