All the world loves a clown, and Nelson is about to have a crowd of them unleashed on its doorstep. Alice Cowdrey reports on the unconventional Circus Oz. --------------------

Clowns make Justin McGinley feel a bit awkward, so when people ask the 39-year- old what his occupation is, he says "physical comedian".

"And then they say, 'What does that mean?' and I say, 'It's like a Mr Bean or Charlie Chaplin clown rather than a white-faced old- fashioned one'.

"My clown is gentle, low-status and sort of vulnerable."

McGinley's adaptation of the stereotypical balloon-twisting entertainer is just one of many unconventional characters set to lure about 5000 Nelsonians through the Trafalgar ...
