Article: Locally grown: Pesto in a pinch

I had just a twinge of guilt when I read weather reports of almost 2 feet of snow in the northern Black Hills of South Dakota on Monday, with wind gusts up to 80 mph. Interstate 90 and Rapid City Regional Airport were closed, and police were ticketing non- emergency travelers. Schools, post offices, businesses - even Mount Rushmore National Monument was closed. Snow continued to fall yesterday, with totals of up to 40 inches predicted.

The blizzard missed the eastern part of the state, where I grew up. There flood watches are posted for rivers swollen by melting snow.

All the while I'm enjoying daffodils, hyacinths, forsythia and bright green grass.

Lately, we've had plenty of green inside ...
