There was a time, decades ago, when a city was broken into smaller communities. These communities and neighborhoods each had their own schools, churches and stores, and everyone knew everyone else.

Those days are gone with the fast pace of the 21st century and more convenient transportation to get around.

But west of Fulton Avenue, a community reminiscent of those little neighborhoods still exists... the West Side.

"Most of what makes the West Side the West Side is the people," said West Side Nut Club (WSNC) member Mike Fetscher. "It's the thick German heritage and blue-collar philosophy."
