Article: Brookfield firm accused of scamming churches D.C. attorney general files suit over computer kiosks

The District of Columbia attorney general's office has filed a lawsuit against a Brookfield leasing company and several other firms that accuses them of engaging in a scam that bilked African- American churches out of thousands of dollars.

The scheme involved placing interactive computer kiosks in the churches that were billed as being a no-cost investment for congregations but wound up costing thousands, the lawsuit contends.

"The scam was designed to illegally obtain hundreds of thousands of dollars from congregations across the country by fraudulently inducing them to accept computer equipment on the representation that it was 'free of charge,' " the lawsuit says.
