The Westcountry could miss out on "one of the great economic
opportunities of the decade" if it fails to embrace renewable
energy, the new boss of the region's renewable energy agency has
warned.
In 11 years time, the South West has a target of generating 15
per cent from green sources, including wind turbine, wave generators
and power plants fired by elephant grass.
At the current rate of growth, the region is unlikely to reach
even 5 per cent. It has bumped along at around 1 per cent for years.
Merlin Hyman, recently- appointed chief executive of Regen SW,
fears that unless renewable power grows "more rapidly", the region
will trail in the wake of the US, Japan and every major economy, ...
