Devon repertory theatre company Creative Cow is daring to be
different with its version of the classic dark comedy The
Anniversary.
Marking the last of a series of plays staged from the 1960s, it
has chosen to revive a play by Bill MacIlwraith at the Blackmore
Theatre on Friday and Saturday.
Set in South London in 1966, the central character is "dear old
mum", who keeps a tight hold on her three sons, with gifts, threats
and exploitation of weaknesses.
But as the family is brought together to celebrate mum's wedding
anniversary, regardless of dad being dead, revolt is in the air.
Middle son, Terry, tells her he is emigrating with his family to
Canada and youngest son, Tom, breaks the news ...
