Bernie Kersting's life was one of service to family, country and
community.
When he was young, he joined the Emsworth Volunteer Fire
Department.
For 28 years, he worked as a police officer in Avalon.
During the Vietnam War, Mr. Kersting, a naval hospital corpsman
attached to the Marine Corps in 1967-68, cared for the wounded as
they arrived from the front lines, especially during the bitter Tet
Offensive.
Bernard Charles Kersting Jr. of Emsworth died of cancer on
Sunday, April 12, 2009, in North Hills Health & Rehabilitation in
Pine. He was 60.
Mr. Kersting was a police officer in Avalon from 1976 to 2004 and
was admired and respected for his concern for the welfare and safety
