BARNARD CASTLE'S Dutch "twin town" is being used to troubleshoot
problems in Teesdale.
Barnard Castle Vision has teamed up with counterparts from the
town of Montfoort, in the Dutch province of Utrecht, after the group
discovered the two towns shared a large number of similarities.
Both have a castle, a historic centre, a small industrial area
and a waterway running through the heart of the town. They also
share the same problems - with both towns facing an ageing
population and young people moving out of the area.
Montfoort, which has a larger population than Barnard Castle,
also has its own local development agency, also called The Vision.
It is hoped the two groups will now work together ...
