Endalyn Adams made a compelling case for leniency Thursday at her
sentencing for registering voters who didn't exist in the run up to
November's election.
The judge had been thinking jail time until he heard Adams, 22,
had gone to work for a voter registration group because she needed
the $40 a day, was raising her four young siblings because their
mother was in jail, and had been set to enter Milwaukee School of
Engineering with financial assistance until her felony arrest in
September.
But elements of her story turned out to be untrue, exaggerated or
unverified before Adams was sentenced to probation rather than jail,
raising questions of whether the case should be re-examined.
