checks
Tragedy helicopter fleet out of action for safety checks
VITAL helicopter operations for Britain's oil and gas industry
will be grounded this weekend after urgent safety checks were
ordered on hundreds of Super Pumas across Europe, following the 1
April disaster in the North Sea in which 16 men died.
The North Sea's entire fleet of Super Puma Mark 2s - the model
involved in the disaster - and the advanced Super Puma EC225, the
type involved in an earlier offshore crash, are to be temporarily
withdrawn from service as part of the Europe-wide safety alert.
