Zambian government deplores "sorry state" of orphanages

LUSAKA, April 18 (Xinhua) -- The Zambian government deplored the state of most of the orphanages in the southern African country despite huge state funding, Zambia News and Information Service (ZANIS) reported on Saturday.

A senior government official said in the town of Kafue in central Lusaka Province that non-governmental organizations (NGOs) proved little value to the plight of vulnerable children in one of Africa's impoverished states where there is a high number of orphans due to the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
