Article: Eastern neighbors make good examples

I venture into Eastern Holmes County about a half-dozen times a year, usually on my way to Mount Hope, Berlin, and sometimes Walnut Creek.

Coming from Wooster, I take U.S. Route 250 through the village of Apple Creek and hang a right on Mount Hope Road. It's a fairly straight shot from there, but you won't get anywhere fast.

The drive is slow because of the many slow moving vehicles, including Amish buggies, farm equipment, bicycles and pedestrians.

People who are unfamiliar with the area drive it like it's a state highway, but anyone who knows of the hills and the lurking danger of a buggy at the top, or a passing car coming the opposite direction, know to be careful.
