N ORWELL - The Zildjian family has been making cymbals since
1623, and the Avedis Zildjian Co. holds the distinction of being
the oldest family-run business in the United States.
But there's a new movement at the company's headquarters in
Norwell, inside the building where the sparkling, crashing sounds of
cymbals are born.
The Zildjians, who have always kept an eye on their storied past,
are now looking to the future, as a new generation prepares to take
over. Three young Zildjians - Cady, Samantha, and Emily - have
begun taking on bigger roles at the company. They are in their 20s,
and they represent the 15th generation of Zildjians to continue a
