The Waukesha Symphony Orchestra has no debt and aims to keep it that way in 2009-'10.

The WSO, on a budget of about $350,000, will cut back on star soloists and their big fees next season. The programming reflects more-than-usual influence of box office and performance expense concerns.

"It's not the most esoteric season," longtime music director Alexander Platt, said in an understatement. "But I've been given lots of opportunities to do whatever I want."
