Article: Salon faces dye fallout; HAIR DYES - WHAT ARE THE RISKS?

PAUL SPRY'S hair has fallen out in clumps and his head is riddled with bald patches. He suffers headaches and a scabby scalp. Luckily, he has almost recovered from the rash that covered his entire body from his torso to the bottom of his feet; when it peeled, his skin came off in sheets.

Spry's nightmare began in January when he had an allergic reaction to a hair colour applied at an Invercargill salon. Within days of the treatment he developed oozing sores on his scalp and his face and head swelled up.

Spry told the Sunday Star- Times he had suffered months of itching from the rash, and days off work and medical bills had cost him and his wife, Jane, about $1500 to date.
