New Zealand's emissions trading scheme will "inevitably" be
delayed to bring it into line with the Australian scheme, which has
been put off for a year, according to experts.
Leading energy and resources lawyer Bryan Gunderson, a Kensington
Swan partner, said a delay here was certain now that Australia had
delayed its scheme.
"It would be imprudent for the New Zealand Government to
introduce an ETS ahead of our major trading partner."
One leading energy sector executive said there was a "strong
will" to align New Zealand's scheme with Australia. The regulation
was important and complex and the Government would take more time to
get it ...
