Article: Long Beach Council votes against releasing more wetlands documents

LONG BEACH - The City Council on Tuesday opposed a push to release of the full record of the Los Cerritos Wetlands land-swap deal.

The move by Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske, a leading critic of the proposed deal, was supported only by the council's newest member, Robert Garcia, and by Councilwoman Tonia Reyes Uranga, according to City Attorney Robert Shannon.

Prior to Tuesday's closed-session vote, a majority of the council indicated a willingness to release the records.

Environmental activist Tom Marchese, a Los Cerritos Wetlands Land Trust board member, launched the effort to obtain the records through a Freedom of Information request.
