Watering at Stafford Cross produced good ground in the main, and
54 runners contested the eight races before a large crowd.
Mixed Open (Axminster Carpets)
None of the six runners had managed to win an Open this season,
and a change of tactics for Lisheen Storm, who was given a positive
ride by Richard Woollacott, seemed to work wonders. After disputing
the lead with Gudlage until the 15th, he was strongly pressed by the
favourite Touch of Flame (Michael Miller), who looked the likely
winner after the penultimate. The pair were almost level approaching
the final fence, but Lisheen Storm responded bravely to Woollacott's
